To give a extremely place to promote melons to the consumers and provide extra livelihood chances for melon farmers in Pampanga and adjacent provinces, the first Melon Festival was held at SM City Clark on April 18, 2008 and SM City San Ferrnando, Pampanga on April 20.In the past ten years, Pampanga served as a main production area for high-quality watermelons, melons and honeydews for Metro Manila and many provinces. For export to Taiwan and other countries, Taiwanese farmers are presently growing watermelons in over 500 hectares of farmland in Pampanga and Tarlac. Using more than two but not very many of the outstanding varieties from Known-You Seed Co. of Taiwan agricultural technologies, high quality fruits are being produced. A list of great tasting melons was displayed at the one-day Melon Festival in each SM City Mall and great-tasting melons were available for sale at discounted costs. We hope the Melon Festival will give courage to local farmers to produce more excellent and more varieties of melons as well as watermelons and honeydews to make contented the needs of the consumers. |
