A USD10-million medical and wellness center has been built by Filipino health care business organization TotalMED Subic Corporation in the Subic Bay Freeport. The opening of this medical and wellness center was celebrated last week to be the first free-standing, full service ambulatory surgery center in the Freeport area.

TotalMED, with Taiwanese health care products maker MedTecs partner, is aiming at the over 100,000 employees of companies established in Subic and Clark Freeport areas, about 5,000 male members of the US Armed Forces that withdrew from active duties and dwelling in the Subic-Clark area, and likewise medical tourism customers from the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada.

The approximate total income produced by medical tourism in Asia was equivalent to USD2.5 billion in 2006, and is believed to increase to a greater extent to around USD4.5 billion in 2012.

A greater in volume inflow of patients from the northern portion of Luzon such as Baguio City, Ilocos, Tarlac and Pampanga is being expected with the full accomplishment of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway project expected near the end of April 2008.

We hope that there will be inflow of patients from other portion of Luzon, especially from Metro Manila, where the population is denser.
