Baler, Aurora, a book published by Senator Edgardo J. Angara, was given start recently at the Manila Polo Club, Makati. The book gets its little from Baler, the capital of Aurora province, which is located between the Sierra Madre mountain range and the sea.The book talks about the difference between the condition of being isolated and the state of being widely and favorably known and the result opposite to what was expected of a distant area turning out so many prominent leaders. It has both history and tragedy. The book also mentions the life and times of former President Manuel Luis Quezon. The book likewise provides an answer that Senator Ed Angara himself suggests in reply to recurring question. Should Baler City thrive on its isolation to preserve its physical grandeur, its pristine natural beauty and progress be damned? Or, should it finally join the economic mainstream, end centuries of isolation and declare itself open for business? Which is more important of the two, the natural beauty of Baler or the progress of Baler? Each on has its own advantages and disadvantages. The decision must be determined based on what the citizens of Baler choose. [Via MB] |
