Second Phase Of Casiguran Airport Funded

The first phase of the Casiguran Airport project was fully accomplished in October 2007 at a price of P15million. This was composed of the construction of the perimeter fence, clearing, grubbing and earthworks.

The second phase of the airport project in this northern coastal town of Casiguran in the province of Aurora has been funded P157 million by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC). The fund will be used for the construction of a 36,000-square meter concrete runway, 4,800-square meter concrete apron - the extensive paved part of an airport immediately adjacent to the terminal and administration buildings, fire station, parking spaces and other structures.

This airport will serve aircraft with a capacity of 40 to 50 passengers within a year, contribute to the growth of tourism, attract foreign and local investors, provide them a way of approach to the Aurora Special Economic Zone, and likewise supply the air transport requirements of the towns of Dilasag and Dinalungan in northern Aurora as well as Dinapigue in southern Isabela.

Land transportation in the area of northern Aurora is difficult due to its mountainous terrain. Air transportation, therefore, is a good alternative for land transportation to have an easier journey.
