Olongapo Ka Freddie Statue With Tourists

Written by Remon

To bring back to life the former natural height of Olongapo City, Mayor James Bong Gordon, Junior celebrated last year the opening of an only one of its kind music venue, a floating platform close to the gates of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

New bands as well as solo artists are provided an opportunity to display their artistic abilities in the floating music venue on weekends, and worthy musician are provided with instruments without charge by the city government.

As portion of the celebration of the opening of the floating music venue, the mayor recently showed to the public for the first time a statue of Pinoy folk singer Freddie Aguilar. The statue of Freddie Aguilar quickly reached the state of being a tourist attraction when the local tourists as well as the foreign tourists at the present time ordinarily take photographs of themselves with the statue. As a result, similar statues of other pinoy rock stars such as Mike Hanopol, Joey Pepe Smith and Sampaguita are expected to be erected along the main road of Olongapo City.

The 60-year old mayor of Gapo formed The Houseboys band when he was still congressman of Zambales. Presently, he is the singer and main composer of his own band, Bonggo. Sibit-Sibit, the single from Bonggo's album with Viva, makes known the story of Sibit-Sibit, the yearly Olongapo festival that shows respect and gratitude to the very small boats of local fisherman. The Sibit-Sibit song is at this time the Sibit-Sibit festival anthem.

The floating music venue will be used as performance stage by top bands and other talents during the celebration of Volunteer's Day on February 20 in Olongapo City. Both the unique floating music venue and the Freddie Aguilar statue serve as tourist attractions. We may volunteer as tourists in Olongapo on February 20.
