A mariculture part with an area of 3 square kilometers in Aurora’s northern town of Casiguran is now available for commercial production of milk fish and export of sea bass.

Investors are now being received with approval by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). This project was suggested by  Senator former agriculture secretary Edgardo Angara and has been approved by the Casiguran government by means of a resolution stating portion of Casiguran Bay a mariculture park.

To help the project, an ice plant has been built in Casiguran by the Department of Agriculture. One hundred milkfish breeders has been brought by the BFAR to the capital town of baler where a hatchery worth P5-million is being constructed.

At five tons per sea cage and twenty cages per hectare, a hectare is calculated to produce one hundred tons of milkfish after at the minimum three months of feeding. These will be sold in the neighboring province of Isabela and the adjacent and inland provinces of Quirino, Nueva Viscaya and Nueva Ecija.

How about apahap? What do you think of sea bass? To what country will sea bass be exported? Will it be better to export dried sea bass than to export fresh sea bass?
