Veggie food makers from Central Luzon seek business partners

Thursday, 20 October 2011

Partnerships with giant establishments are crucial to the long-term growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), a ranking Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) official said.

DTI Nueva Ecija provincial director Brigida Pili cited as example the collaboration between Aliaga vegetable noodle manufacturers and the NE Group of Companies.

Considered as a business "Fairy God Mother," the NE Food Chain is one of the first to adopt and sell Aliaga's vegetable noodles in their supermarkets.

Available in squash, malunggay, saluyot, and carrot variance, Pili said the nutritious vegetable noodles are competitive with counterparts in the instant mami category.

She said creating partnerships is one of the goals of Likha ng Central Luzon Trade Fair and Nueva Ecija will be represented by 29 SMEs primarily involved in DTI's One Town, One Product(OTOP)program.

But DTI is not only looking at the private sector for investors and end-users. "We hope these products will be considered in the feeding programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development or local governments," Pili said.

Another product that has a big potential, especiallly as a healthy alternative are the soya-based products of Healthy Choice that is based in Cabanatuan City.

Pili further said that the company is engaged in the production of soyannaise (similar to mayonnaise) and tofu that tastes like beef or chicken. These products are likely to attract vegans and people tired of meat and the like.

The 2011 Likha ng Central Luzon opens on Wednesday, October 19, at the Megatrade Hall, SM Mega Mall in Mandaluyong City. [via PIA]
