Olongapo a city located at the southern part of Zambales and known for its slogan "Aim High Olongapo" was selected for the fifth time as the regional winner for 2007 in the annual search for Child-Friendly City . Since the search was begun in 1999, the city has won it for three consecutive years in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and again for two consecutive years in 2006 and 2007.
The aim of the annual search for Child-Friendly City is to stimulate cities and municipalities to thrust forward for plans for the benefit of the youth sector. Plaque and a Php50,000 cash incentive were given as a reward in San Fernando, Pampanga by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DWSD) to the officers of Olongapo City.
Olongapo City has proven its worth for winning five out of nine yearly competitions for the reason that there are no lazybones in Olongapo. Please, give other cities and municipalities the chance to win too.
