In the seven provinces of Central Luzon, tourist arrivals augmented by 24.2 percent to 530,802 in 2008 from 427,364 in 2007 but due to global financial crisis, climate change, and the dreadful influenza virus A(H1N1), a limited increase of 3.67 percent to 550,227 in 2009 was experienced.

Domestic tourism is the stronger part of the tourism industry in Central Luzon as atleast 70 percent of the tourist were Filipinos.

The principal parts of foreign tourists were Americans, ensued by Japanese and South Koreans. The Americans and the Japanese came for friends and relatives in the Philippines, while the South Koreans wished to get knowledge of English as a second language.

Domestic travel in the Philippines was made greater because of long weekends brought by holiday economics, while domestic travel in Central Luzon was made easier because of North Luzon and Subic-Clark-Tarlac expressways. Were there additional reasons? [via manilastandardtoday.com]
