Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trades or DHVCAT is known as the oldest trade school in Asia. Last Monday, the Senate permitted the renaming of the college to Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU). At present, it is the first state owned university in Pampanga. The consent given by the Senate Bill 3306 will grant more subsidies, economic and governmental benefits to DHVCAT. This will be valid if the bill already contains the signature of Pres. Gloria Arroyo probably next month. According to the law, one state university is allowed per province. The bill was unanimously approved by the senators, Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Aurelio Gonzales Jr. said. During the Senate approval Gonzales was with President Enrique Baking and some of the school's faculty members DHVCAT. Since October last year, the entire administration of DHVCAT has been eyeing for the change of DHVCAT into a university. The bill explained that the trade school must offer technological programs like Computer Science and Information Technology, and they should broaden its own graduate schools. The state university is planning to offer satellite campuses in the province. [via mb.com.ph] |
