Hall of Fame Award Goes to Aurora Governor

During the 13th National Social Welfare and Development Forum held at the Fiesta Pavillion of the historic landmark Manila Hotel on Aug. 26, the Hall of Fame Award goes to Governor Bellaflor Angara-Castillo of Aurora.The award was given by Teresa M. Mariano of Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines Inc. (ALSWDOPI) National President, who was assisted by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Esperanza I. Cabral.
The Hall of Fame Award is being granted to those are being an outstanding governor and for advocating pro-poor programs and providing social services to the marginalized sectors in the province. The ceremony was also attended by the former senator and now Manila Hotel President Joey D. Lina Jr., who mentioned in his welcome note the notable part of the local officials in giving the basic services in their localities.
Gov. Castillo was awarded with the same award for the third time using the following criteria: advancing innovative program strategies, initiating management plans, delivering various services to beneficiaries, and providing adequate resources for program implementation. In the addition, the governor was also cited for focusing on the needs of the poor and the needy, particularly the so-called vulnerable sectors such as persons with disability, indigenous peoples, unemployed women, out-of-school youth and senior citizens. With this kind of recognition, government officials might be challenged to strive hard in introducing more programs and create employment opportunities for folk in the far-flung villages by providing them skills training.
