Paombong Bulacan Suka Festival

Fiestas are regularly described by smiling faces, but the dwellers of Paombong, Bulacan may deform or twist their faces into an unusual appearance as they observe in some special way the first Sukang Paombong Festival.

The activities for the celebration include mukhasim vinegar-tasting contest, suka and tuba cooking contest, pagtutuba demonstrations, exhibits and street-dancing competitions.

The festival was taken into the mind to assist protect and move up in position the naturally fermented nipa palm vinegar that has made Paombong very well known. It was hoped that the festival would give life and energy again to the disappearing vinegar manufacturing activity of Paombong.

The fruitful swamplands, where mangroves and nipa palm trees prospered, decreased of fishponds. There is a need to take care of the remaining nipa lands for the reason that they sustain the P88.2 million vinegar-making industry of Paombong. Based on known facts, a hectare of nipa palm can yield 24 liters of tuba per day.

{mosgoogle right}Vinegar can be used too as antiseptic, cleansing agent and disinfected aside from cooking ingredients Nipa palm can also be a source of broom, firewood or wood cut for fuel, palaspas utilized during Palm Sunday, thatch or pawid, foods that are rare such as sweetened nipa fruit and sweet tuba.

It is better to televise the mukhasim vinegar-tasting contest of the Sukang Paombong Festival every December to inform those who live far from Paombong, Bulacan.
