Marking his 100th birth anniversary, President Arroyo unveiled at noon yesterday the 6-foot statue of the late Rufino Cardinal Santos at the Immaculate Parish in Guagua, Pampanga. The late Cardinal served as the Archbishop of Manila from 1953, succeeding Archbishop Reyes then on March 31, 1960, he was named cardinal, the first Filipino to receive the distinction by Pope John Paul XXIII. |

With full country amenities planned, South Korean and Filipino joint venture announced that they were allotting $48 million or about P 4.2 B for the redevelopment of golf course in Subic Bay Freeport. Benjamin John Defensor, president and chief executive of Hanafil Golf and Tour Inc., said that the firm wanted to turn the 18-hole golf course into an all-weather championship course. |

PhilRice (Philippine Rice Research Institute) has issued a warning against bacterial diseases which attack rice farms as a result of non-stop rains. One of theses diseases is the bacterial Leaf Streak (BLS). It is less invasive and popular than Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB) but it is more prevalent when it rains non-stop. |

Six entries from Olongapo City National High School emerged winners in the recently-concluded Classroom and Excellence Awards given out by the Singapore-based Asia Europe Foundation an online website contest that confirmed the world-class capabilities of public school students. DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus lauded Olongapo City NHS and its principal, Dr. Helen Aggabao for the 3 entries recognized under the Classroom Awards and another 3 under the Excellence Awards. |
