Last Feb. 8 and 9 at Subic Park Hotel in Zambales, the multi-awarded and renowned Australian photographer and Apple Pro trainer, Gunther Deichmann conducted a two-day adventure photography and digital photo management workshop using Apple’s Aperture software for photography since it was sponsored by Power Mac Center. During the workshop, easy to use and powerful tools in photography were explained. Tips on color correction and editing, making the right adjustments (when to use curves, brushes, etc), backing up files, protecting images, analyzing RAW versus JPEG, managing and sharing libraries, as well as how to work with Aperture are included in the discussion.

Westwind is a jet used in business. It was first manufacture in Israel and it remained in the production for almost 20 years. Being known as the fast air freight aircraft, it can have as many as ten passengers. Here in the Phils., Chairman Robert Garcia of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority pointed out that they have converted the Westwind jet to what they called “Carejet Assist”. It is a mini intensive-care unit ward with complete hospital staff, an oxygen system and ventilators. It operates 24/7 through the Aviation Concepts Logistics Center in Makati City. To prove its capability, the jet has been used in nine air-ambulance missions and several other medical and repatriation activities. The company is serving insurance firms from South America, the United States and Europe and other emergency needs.

A legacy museum was recently inaugurated in San Miguel, Zambales. Mango wine is served to the VIPs as they cut the ribbon during the ceremonies. Casa San Miguel, a community-based school for the arts and a destination better known for beginner's surf and a jump-off point to the camping beach coves of Anawangin and Nagsasa.

People from Central Luzon are encouraged by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to take the qualifying test of the Foreign Service Officer Exam which will be held on March 10. Arturo Romua, DFA Regional Officer-In-Charge, invites all natural born Filipinos, 35 years old and below, bachelor’s degree holder or higher, employed or currently pursuing advanced studies. The exam will happen in 14 locations which include San Fernando, Pampanga.

The institutionalization of Zambales' Public Employment Services Offices is the aim of Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. The projects provided by DOLE had helped their people to enrich their lives. Ebdane believes that self-reliant will be the key to their success, that is why he always thinks of other means to maximize the productivity of the province. About 2 million-peso budget was allotted for the construction of multi-purpose hall in Iba. This building will be the home for vocational courses in the province. The amount of P500,000 is also granted for technical & vocational instructors. Community-based trainings will be provided to the residence of Zambales to assist them in their livelihood needs.

The Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Law mandates all motorcycle riders to wear standard protective helmets with ICC sticker that means the product has passed quality standards. In compliance to this policy, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Bataan requires sticker marking on the helmets of all motorcycle riders in the province. DTI-Bataan Director Yay Lasam cited in a press meeting that the agency will check and verify if the motorcycle riders' helmets are protective. An Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker will be attached on the helmet for free. Lasam explained that all motorists should visit the DTI’s office to avail of the ICC sticker. They must accomplish the application form and present a valid ID to have the said sticker. Sticker will be granted to motorists until December 31, 2012.

Last 2004 only 120 calesas or horse-drawn carts can be seen daily in the streets of San Fernando. As of August this year, that fleet of calesas had increased to 156. According to City Administrator Ferdinand Cavlao, the increase of the number of calesas is due to the eagerness of calesa drivers to compete with pedicabs. Calesa drivers are being trained as tourist guides to further boost the tourism in the city.

In the recent Subic Bay Maritime Conference and Exhibit, more than 500 shippers and shipping line operators had attended the two day event which was held at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center. According to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Roberto Garcia, representatives from various shipping and logistics companies from as far as South Africa, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan participated in the forum which focused on the advantages of Subic as a logistics and investment hub. Compared to Manila, Subic port has one of the most beautiful and technologically - advanced container terminals in the country. |
